Winter, spring, summer or fall, there's always something to do in the Broomfield and Boulder area. There are recreational opportunities to boat, fish, swim, bike, hike, mountain climb, etc. in Boulder/Broomfield CO itself or just minutes away! The average temperature in January is 30 and in July, it's 73 degrees. Average rainfall is 15 and average snowfall is 60 inches each year.

Presently, the city sits in parts of four counties: Adams, Boulder, Jefferson, and Weld Counties. The majority of the city is in Boulder County.

Broomfield was founded in 1877 as a small farming community known as Zang's Spur.

In the 1950's, it began to develop as a "bedroom" community for Denver. Broomfield was officially incorporated as a city in 1961. It was billed as the state's first "planned community."

Broomfield is a home rule city operating under a City Council-City Manager form of government. The council consists of the Mayor and 10 council members, all elected. They, in turn, hire a City Manager. The Mayor serves a 2 year term and is elected at-large. There are two council representatives from each of the 5 wards in the city. They serve 4 year staggered terms. The City Council meets every two weeks (the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of the month) at 6 p.m. Meetings are televised locally. Police protection is provided by the City of Broomfield Police Dept.

Fire protection is provided by the North Metro Fire Rescue District. Broomfield has 3 state Senators and 3 state Representatives in the Colorado State Legislature, and on the national level, Colorado has 2 Senators and 6 Congressmen who represent Broomfield in Washington, DC.
