Make Every Day of the Year A Day of Health
with a Consistent Healthy Living Lifestyle

You have the ability to make today's date your personal Day of Health, working on a healthy lifestyle, with health and wellness for better health & longevity. Many factors affect your health. Some you cannot control, such as your genetic makeup or your real age. But you can make changes to your lifestyle. By taking steps toward healthy living, you can help reduce your risk of heart disease, cancer, stroke and other serious diseases. For example,

Every April in the USA and World (promoted and supported by the United Nations) we celebrate World Day of Health, which also commemorates the founding of The World Health Organization by the UN. Each year, Day of Health events and health activities bring international attention to global health needs. World Health Day recently focused on educating people of all ages about dangers of infection and ways to eliminate infections.

The first antibiotic, penicillin, was discovered by accident by Alexander Fleming, after he noticed the substance repelling bacteria from a laboratory plate. By the 1940's antibiotics had become commonplace. After 50-years of heavy anti-biotic use and major increases in human bacterial issues, and in animals and agriculture, many microbes have developed a built-in resistance to drugs, and many antibiotics now produce only a weakened effect, or offer little real effectiveness.

Staph, HIV, AIDS, Tuberculosis, influenza (the flu) and malaria are all examples of diseases becoming increasingly difficult to control due to strong drug-resistant strains. People infected with drug-resistant strains are more likely to have longer and more expensive hospital stays. As resistance increases, the patient’s risk for complications or death from infection increases. Thanks in part to America's Day of Health initiatives, the USA and world is making good efforts to defeat growing bacterial resistance in many of the world's nations, including developing countries, where health issues are even more critical and need extensive health education and health resources.

What are the Benefits of Physical Activity?

And that’s not all. Being more active can:

Physical activity increases your chances of living a longer, healthier life with longevity. It can also help you look and feel your best at all times. Take a brisk walk around the neighborhood after dinner this evening. Regular physical activity is good for your health. Physical activity is anything that gets your body moving. Start at a comfortable level. Once you get the hang of it, add a little more activity each time you exercise, try doing it more frequently.

Yoga for Health

Yoga is a mind and body practice with historical origins in ancient Indian philosophy. Like other meditative activity practices used for health purposes, various styles of yoga typically combine physical postures, breathing techniques and meditation or relaxation. Current research suggests that a carefully adapted set of yoga poses may reduce lower-back pain and improve function. Other studies also suggest that practicing yoga (as well as other forms of regular exercise) might improve quality of life; reduce stress; lower heart rate and blood pressure; help relieve anxiety, depression, and insomnia; and improve overall physical fitness, strength, and flexibility. But some research suggests yoga may not improve asthma, and studies looking at yoga and arthritis have mixed results.

Mental Health

Mental health includes our emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It affects how we think, feel and act as we cope with life. It also helps determine how we handle stress, relate to others, and make choices. Mental health is important at every stage of life, from childhood thru adult years.

Mental illnesses are serious disorders which can affect your thinking, mood, and behavior. There are many causes of mental disorders. Your genes and family history may play a role. Your life experiences, such as stress or a history of abuse, may also matter. Biological factors can also be part of the cause. Mental disorders are common, but good mental health treatment is readily available.
